Class Instructor: Kelly Almer

Class Date: Mondays - Sept. 21, 28; Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26; Nov. 2

Class Time: 7:00–8:00 PM EST

Class Size: 6-8 students

Age Group: 4th-6th Graders

Do you remember a particular moment or place because of the smells, sounds, tastes? Do you remember the best creamy, cold, ice cream cone ever? The warmest, clearest water plunge you ever took? The highest mountain or lowest valley you have walked and the smells, sounds, feelings you had as you experienced it? Don’t these experiences deserve to be captured forever?

Well this writing class will provide the opportunity to do just that!

Students will recreate an experience into a sensory poem (rhyming or not) that encapsulates those marvelous and unusual senses. Reliving those will be fun and exhilarating. Join us as we open our minds and write.

All enrolled students will have the opportunity to publish work in the 2027 issue of the National Writers Series’ literary journal.

Note: It is highly recommended that students have experience writing, word processing, and editing skills on the computer. We will use Google documents to share between the instructor and the student writer. Completed poems, student bios, and student headshots will be due the last day of class.
